Weekday lunches in center city see a daily exodus of professionals searching for quick places to refuel for the afternoon. Though for some it can seem like a hope and a prayer that this short jaunt happens before 2:30 in the afternoon. Enter Honeygrow, Philadelphia’s own fast-casual restaurant serving up fully customizable stir-fry dishes and salads. Honeygrow first opened in Philadelphia in 2012 and has since expanded to ten locations initially spread throughout the greater Philadelphia area , but which now include Hoboken, NJ, Newark, DE, and Pentagon City in DC.
At each of their locations, Honeygrow offers creations with a focus on locally-sourced ingredients. A blackboard with ingredients and the location of their origin graces the back wall to keep guests informed. Ordering a meal is especially streamlined, as patrons are directed to multiple kiosks with touch screens. There are six suggested salad and stir-fry options to get new customers started, including vegan and gluten-free selections. The beauty is that each of these options are fully customizable. Ingredients may be removed or added to create combinations to fit each palate. For those who are looking for a personal creation, the sky is the limit. The meats at Honeygrow are all-natural and antibiotic and hormone free.
Of the suggested menu items, two stir-fry dishes and one salad are highly recommended. The Sour Cherry BBQ stir-fry contains freshly made egg white noodles, roast pork, bell peppers, green beans, red onions, and fried shallots. The tart but smooth sauce excellently accents the roast pork, variety of fresh vegetables, and light egg noodles. A second suggestion from the stir-fry menu is the Sweet Soy Five Spice with brown rice, togarashi spiced turkey, green beans, red onions, and sesame seeds. The slightly spicy dish combines tender turkey with crisp vegetables for a well portioned lunch. From the salad side, the Cobb Salad with white balsamic vinaigrette, romaine lettuce, roasted FreeBird chicken, hard boiled egg, crispy bacon, apples, grape tomatoes, avocado, and crumbled bleu cheese is a standout bowl of freshness. Patrons searching for a healthy lunch fill the location on 16th street daily, which is a testament to the quality found at Honeygrow.
Currently, there are five planned expansions for additional locations, which include King of Prussia, Brooklyn, and Baltimore. Honeygrow will be able to serve customers fresh creations worked up at their new headquarters in Fishtown. This sprawling new facility includes a test kitchen for both training and refinement of their culinary processes. The Philadelphia chain plans to continue expanding throughout the surrounding states to bring a new brand of fast-casual dining to more and more customers. Instead of the next sandwich or slice of pizza, give Honeygrow a try for a healthy and fresh lunch with roots right here in Philadelphia!
